One of the main challenges for the coming years is to find a suitable energy storage technology able to make compatible the three key parameters: sustainability, performance, and cost. Electrochemical batteries appear as the most promising devices due to their well proven efficiency characteristics, but new electrode couples and electrolytes need to be developed to reach to required target of less than 0.05 €/stored kWh, meeting the sustainability European goals.
